Dentistry , Art or Science ?

When I started this course , I thought I would be dealing with Chemistry and Biology again , but to my surprise it was not as bad as I thought . We were dealing with the usual science stuff , but this time we had the chance to even participate in the experiments !
In Physiology , we pricked our own fingers for blood and we observed them under the microscope provided . We learnt how to separate our blood cells . I didnt even knew that was possible . Then we had Biochemistry , where we learnt about this chemistry stuff that leads to molecular changes in our body . We had hands on training on how to diagnose a patient suffering from diseases by observing their urine ! How cool is that :)
In Anatomy , we were first instructed to buy our real own personal human skull .

I named him Ramu :)

After a few weeks , we were introduced to the dead bodies in the Anatomy Lab that we were supposed to  observe . It was kind of freaky at first but we got used to it after a few weeks .

This is how the Human Brain looks like

Then we had Oral Histology , where we studied about the 32 teeths in our mouth . We had to actually carve the design of the tooth on wax blocks provided to study the morphology and the shape of the tooth . It was kind of irritating at first but we got the hold of it after a few months .

The end product of our carving !!

We were then introduced to Prosthodontics , which is the art of replacing missing teeths in the mouth by the means of dentures and etc .
We started fabricating dentures , it was an irritating process at first but still , we managed to catch up on it :)

This is the process where we had to arrange teeth in position before we transfered it to the denture

This is the teeth in the cast of the patient

Fabrication of the Occlusal Rims , which will house the teeth in the denture

Mind the bad work , they are just exercises and are not related to any patient

We were then introduced to Endodonticts , which was the art of repairing a tooth ! It was fun . Finally we had the chance to drill holes with our equipments =)

The plaster models of the teeths that we operated upon

We dealt with alot of handworks and it was more like a arts class . We had to draw images of cells and colour it and stuff

I have alot of pictures of the dead bodies and their organs but I dont wanna take a risk of posting them here ;)
Guess thats all for today , Take care
Till the next post =)

Malaysian Cuisine in Chennai

The memories of leaving home and flying off to this part of the world is still fresh in my mind . It always did come up in my mind whether will I get adapted with the South Indian styled dishes or would I die of malnutrition if it ever happened !
But anyways , as soon as I landed here , I found out that there was a Malaysian branch of Pelita Nasi Kandar nearby my area . Phew , what a relieve . That was my 1st stop after I settled all the irritating procedures necessary to register myself as a student .

Its located at T.Nagar , the shopping paradise of Chennai . And seriously , the crowd at this area  is freaking huge . At a normal weekend , an estimated 8000 people will be there scouting for jewelleries ,  cloths and etc .

Attached above is the map to Pelita Nasi Kandar .

Anyways , the food there is amazing .

This is few of the snapshots taken during my last visit .
The Milo Ais there is mind blowing !

This was the Kuey Tiow that I packed back . Exact same taste as the one back home .

Well that's not it , recently another Malaysian shop opened . And as usual , we Malaysians went there to try what they had to offer .
Their Bandung and their Chin Chao was simply awesome .
Its located in one of the biggest shopping complex in Chennai , The EA Mall .
Just go to the Cafeteria at the 4th floor and hunt for Bee's Kopitiam (spot for the Malaysian Flag) .

Attached above is the directions to get there .

Well thats not all either . Recently I went with a few friends to this random restaurant and I was shocked to discover Mee Goreng , Kuey Tiow , Pau and Ais Kacang in their menu .
With the taste of Mamak and Chinese together , The Cascade has opened 4 branches in Chennai . Ask any Auto-Riksham driver and he will take you to one =)

Auto-Rikshaw , 3 wheeled money sucker

Ever been to India ? If yes , then an Auto-Rikshaw should be well known to you . For those who dont know what an Auto-Rikshaw is , its basically a  3 wheeled cab/taxi which can accomodate about 3-4 members of the public . It is small and it has basic functions of an oil powered vehicle . It is not a sophisticated vehicle .

Anyways , lets leave the vehicle aside for a while .

Auto drivers can be big nuisance at times . They demand charges at rates way higher then the norm value .
Hence , to survive and to prevent being cheated , follow this few tips to always get reasonable rates from the auto drivers :

Research on your destination: Before you jump in an auto rickshaw, make sure you have an idea of the distance to the destination. You can do this by reading a map or asking complete strangers (Yes, this actually works!). The trick to asking complete strangers is that you should always first opt for a couple or people working in a shop.

Communicate with knowledge: Most auto rickshaw drivers will know Hindi and many will also know English. Whichever, language you prefer, make sure you communicate in a non-tourist manner

Insist on going by the fare meter: If you are a foreigner , auto drivers will instantly quote an outrageous figure

Use a map: If you have a mobile, then install Google Maps. The suggested route and distance calculated by Google Maps is usually the shortest. However, the estimated journey time is not.

Avoid being too friendly: Use conversation to extract route information. For example, ask the driver the road names or the names of any large buildings. Your map will most probably display the information.

I guess thats's all I've for today .
Its already late here and I better be going before I miss another day of class .
Till the next post !

The Age Old Generation of Old Age

I've always like to see old people smiling and it gives me great joy when they do . In India , expecially the place where Im studying now , old people are treated like garbage . I've observed in the past few months , people would hire this elderly workers and burden of excessive works such as carrying heavy gas tanks and washing a huge amount of clothes with very minimum wage are given to them.
At this age , they deserved to be loved and cared . Recently , an old lady fell nearby me , and rather then helping her , people were looking and laughing at her . Where has humanity dissapeared at this dark times ?

A survey conducted by the United Nation indicated that by 2040 , the old age population would overcome the amount of teenagers and childrens all together . This means , there would be more elderly people walking around the town then the younger generations.

Let us all become sensible and prevent our ego from destroying our attitudes and well-beings ! Respect all age group and always remember , No One is superior then the other as we are all the children of God !
